Making A Difference In Our Community -“What a wonderful, fun evening for two great charities!”

The Eldercare Foundation of Ottawa and the OutCare Foundation have joined forces to improve the quality of life of the residents in long-term care and for individuals who need palliative care. Proceeds from the Black Tie Bingo! Annual Fundraiser presented by Family Tree Wealth Management, the Roby Wealth Group will help ensure that people are comfortable, well taken care of, and treated with dignity in their remaining years. Together, our foundations make an important difference in palliative care and long-term care support and services available.

Why Is This Important?

With seniors making up the fastest growing age group in our society, the need for palliative care and long-term care is increasing significantly. When families are in need of either type of care for a loved one, they are often shocked to discover the shortage of services.

By 2041, about one in four Canadians is expected to be 65 or over.

  • Better quality of life at end-of-life affects us all.
  • 90% of people do not die suddenly – most will be faced with the need for palliative care as they approach end-of-life.
  • Currently, 7 out of 10 of those who need palliative care cannot access it.
  • Our long-term care homes are chronically underfunded. The median number of days for LTC home placement in the Champlain region is 237, close to eight months. The provincial average is 105 days.
  • Many studies have made the link between higher social engagement and lower mortality rates. In addition, other studies have demonstrated that positive experiences in care homes have greatly improved the quality of of its residents.
